read()

Description

Reads incoming serial data. read() inherits from the Stream utility class.

Syntax

All boards:

Serial.read()
Serial1.read()

86Duino One specific:

Serial2.read()
Serial3.read()
Serial485.read()

86Duino EduCake specific:

Serial2.read()
Serial3.read()
Serial232.read()

Parameters

None

Returns

the first byte of incoming serial data available (or -1 if no data is available) – int

Example

int incomingByte = 0;   // for incoming serial data

void setup() {
        Serial.begin(9600);     // opens serial port, sets data rate to 9600 bps
}

void loop() {

        // send data only when you receive data:
        if (Serial.available() > 0) {
                // read the incoming byte:
                incomingByte = Serial.read();

                // say what you got:
